Surf League Round 2 Update

2 Feb 2023 by David Somers

This Saturday SLSWA will be conducting the SunSmart WA Surf League Round 2 carnival at Scarborough Beach. As you may be aware, extreme heat is forecast for Saturday 4th February with the BOM forecasting temperatures of up to 38 degrees and a UV Index of 11 (extreme).

As a SunSmart organisation SLSWA advises that for the protection of participants, volunteers and spectators, changes to the carnival start time, program and finish time have been now been implemented to reduce the duration of event and reduce sun exposure for all. Please be advised that the following changes will apply.

1. The event will now start 7.00am instead of 7.30am as previously advised.
2. The event will conclude no later than 11am and any events that have not been completed by 11am will be cancelled.
3. Given the program structure, the events that may possibly be impacted by the 11am deadline are the team events. With this in mind, the Ocean Relay has been deemed the lowest priority and will be moved to the end of the program.
4. Where possible, straight finals will be run, meaning that larger finals fields may result.

For those competitors attending the carnival primarily to compete in team events you may wish to review your attendance based on this communication.

An updated program will be placed in the document section as soon as possible.
